Published in London in 1863, this color lithograph by James William Edmund Doyle brings to life the bravery and strategic prowess of Edward III and his loyal knights. In this scene, we witness King Edward III fighting incognito under the banner of Walter, Lord Manny. The date is set between September 4th, 1346 and August 4th, 1347 – a period when Calais remained under English control for over two centuries. Behind the king stands Lord Manny with his own distinguished banner. Amidst a backdrop of medieval warfare and clashing swords, this image showcases not only the valorous spirit but also highlights key figures such as Eustace de Ribaumont.
