The Anglers
EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating snapshot of life in the early 20th century, captured by Henri J. F. Rousseau, also known as Le Douanier. This oil on canvas masterpiece, created around 1908-09, measures 46x55 cm and can be found at the Musee de l'Orangerie in Paris. In this enchanting scene, we are transported to a serene riverside setting where two fishermen patiently cast their lines into the water. The tranquility of their activity contrasts with the unexpected presence of a biplane soaring above them. It is none other than Wilbur Wright's pioneering aircraft that adds an element of wonder and intrigue to this idyllic landscape. Rousseau's naive style brings out the charm and simplicity of everyday life against a backdrop featuring elements like a factory chimney and houses nestled along the beach. The artist's attention to detail allows us to immerse ourselves in this picturesque moment, appreciating both nature's beauty and man-made wonders. This print not only captures the essence of fishing but also serves as a testament to human progress during that era. With its rich colors and skillful composition, "The Anglers" invites viewers to reflect on our connection with nature while marveling at mankind's ability to conquer new frontiers through aviation.
