EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving, titled "Guanaco" showcases the exquisite artistry of the German School in the 19th century. Housed in a private collection, this print is a true testament to the talent and skill of its illustrator, Parkinson, and engraver Johann Carl Bock. Originally published as part of "A Die SAaugthiere in Abbildungen nach der Natur mit BeschreibungenA" by Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber (1739-1810), this artwork offers a glimpse into nature's wonders. The guanaco, also known as Guananko or Huanako, takes center stage in this illustration that beautifully captures its essence. With meticulous attention to detail and vibrant colours, this engraving brings the guanaco to life. Its graceful form and majestic presence are expertly portrayed through delicate lines and shading techniques. As one gazes upon this piece, they can almost feel the gentle breeze rustling through its fur. The significance of camels in natural history is highlighted here as well.
