Green Bellied Hummingbird Collection

The Green-Bellied Hummingbird (Chlorostilbon aureoventris) is a species of hummingbird found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America and has a bright green back, with an iridescent blue-green throat and breast. The wings are blackish-brown, with white tips on the outer feathers. Its tail is long and forked, with two white spots near the end. This species feeds mainly on nectar from flowers, but also eats small insects for protein. During courtship displays, males will perform aerial dives to attract females. They build their nests out of lichen or mosses woven together with spider webs and lined with soft plant down or feathers. The female lays two eggs which hatch after about 18 days incubation period by both parents. Green-bellied Hummingbirds are important pollinators in their habitat as they feed on nectar from many different plants while transferring pollen between them in the process.
