Bigeye trevally

Bigeye trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus) circling. The trevally, or jackfish, congregates in large schools during the day, seeking safety in numbers from predators. The resulting wall of fast-moving fish makes it difficult for a predator to focus on a single target. At night the school fragments to feed, mainly on smaller fish and crustaceans. The trevally can reach lengths of 120 centimetres and weigh up to 18 kilograms. It inhabits tropical and subtropical coastal waters near reefs and is regarded as an excellent human food source.
