EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the historical art of the constellation of Capricornus, beautifully capturing its mythical essence. Depicted as a majestic sea-goat, this artwork represents the tenth sign of the Zodiac. The Sun graces Capricornus between 22 December and 19 January, making it an intriguing celestial phenomenon. Despite its lack of bright stars, Capricornus remains an inconspicuous yet enigmatic constellation. In this artwork, we witness the Suns path, known as the ecliptic, portrayed by a striking black and red line at the center. This stunning piece is based on a sky map created by Johannes Hevelius, a renowned Polish-German astronomer from the 17th century. Hevelius' posthumously published work in 1690 serves as inspiration for this mesmerizing depiction of Capricornus. Its intricate details and vibrant colors bring to life the wonders of cosmology and stellar exploration. As we gaze upon this extraordinary image, we are reminded of our connection to both ancient mythology and modern astronomy. The goat symbolizes ambition and determination while representing one's journey towards success amidst challenging circumstances. Science Photo Library presents us with another masterpiece that seamlessly blends science with artistry.
