EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases General Benjamin Henry Grierson, a prominent Union cavalry general during the American Civil War. The talented artist J Rogers beautifully captures Grierson's commanding presence and distinguished features in this engraving from volume III of "The War with the South: A History of the Late Rebellion". In 1863, Grierson led an audacious military operation known as Grierson's Raid, which involved an arduous 800-mile advance deep into Confederate territory. This daring maneuver was a crucial part of General Ulysses Grant's Vicksburg campaign. After the war, General Benjamin Henry Grierson played a pivotal role in organizing and leading the 10th Cavalry regiment, famously known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
