EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the ethereal beauty of Fanad Lighthouse, standing tall and proud against the stunning coastline of Donegal, Ireland. Designed by renowned civil engineer George Halpin and first illuminated on St. Patrick's Day in 1817, this historic lighthouse has been a guiding beacon for sailors for centuries. The long exposure technique used in this image creates a sense of motion and awe as the waves crash against the cliffs below. The tranquil scene is bathed in warm hues of sunset, adding an extra touch of majesty to the already magnificent landscape. With its fixed light shining red towards the sea and white towards Lough Swilly, Fanad Lighthouse provided crucial guidance to ships navigating these treacherous waters. Its powerful beam could be seen up to 14 miles away on clear nights. Over time, technology advanced and in 1975, the lighthouse was converted to electric operation. In 1983 it became fully automated, continuing its important role without requiring constant human presence. David Clapp's skillful photography perfectly captures not only the architectural beauty of this iconic tower but also highlights its symbiotic relationship with nature. This image invites viewers to immerse themselves in the tranquility and grandeur that define Fanad Lighthouse and its surroundings.
