Bubble chamber scanner at work, Fermilab
Bubble chamber scanner Renee Jones at work at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) near Chicago, Illinois, in June 1984. She is sitting at a table onto which the enormously magnified bubble chamber photograph is projected from an overhead projector. Her left hand is resting on a " tracker ball", a control which enables her to move the image in any direction across the table. Her right hand is resting by a computer keyboard which she uses to call up different bubble chamber photographs. The role of the scanner is to measure the length and curvature of the tracks in a bubble chamber photograph with great accuracy. (June 84)
