Early rider! He roars through the air with the greatest of ease
Early rider! He roars through the air with the greatest of ease...the kid who makes jumping over nine men look like childs play.
But then its not really surprising that little John Shipley is leaping into the lime light at the tender age of six.
His dad Sergeant Derek Shipley is in charge of the Royal Artillery motorcycle display team, based at Woolwich.
Derek nearest the camera, regularly soars over twenty men during their summer shows
But John the teams mascot, has already got that number well in his sights.
Twice, between school lessons, he has appeared in displays at Woolwich.
Now the Early Riders just rarin to roar ahead. 7th September 1976

Early Rider Takes Flight - A Fearless Leap into the Limelight
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness a remarkable sight that defies both age and expectation. Meet little John Shipley, a six-year-old dynamo who fearlessly soars through the air with unparalleled grace and confidence. As the son of Sergeant Derek Shipley, leader of the esteemed Royal Artillery motorcycle display team based in Woolwich, it seems natural for young John to embrace his daredevil spirit. With eyes tightly shut and donning a crash helmet and leather overalls, John effortlessly jumps over nine men as if it were mere child's play. His father, Derek, renowned for soaring over twenty men during their summer shows, proudly watches from behind him in this snapshot frozen in time. Despite his tender age and nervous anticipation evident on his face, John has already made two appearances alongside his father at Woolwich displays between school lessons. With each performance he hones his skills further; now setting his sights on surpassing even Derek's record-breaking feats. As we gaze upon this photograph captured by Ron Burton in 1976 London, we are reminded of the indomitable spirit that resides within us all - pushing boundaries and embracing challenges with unwavering determination. Little John Shipley is an early rider destined to roar ahead into a future filled with awe-inspiring stunts and boundless possibilities.
