Animals - Children with Monkeys. Sharing... Benje plays with his new friend Jemma Heath
Animals - Children with Monkeys. Sharing....Benje plays with his new friend Jemma Heath. Benje the orphan chimp found a new friend when he looked in at BBC-TVs Blue Peter studio. Waiting to extend a welcoming hand was 18-month-old Jemma Heath, daughter of former TV presenter Tina Heath. The pair got on famously well, even to the point of sharing Benjes collection of toys. Four-month-old Benje, whose mother died soon after his birth at London Zoo, is still being bottle fed by keeper Peter Dillingham. May 1982 P000506

EDITORS COMMENTS
Animals - Children with Monkeys. Sharing. . . . Benje finds a lifelong friend in Jemma Heath. In this heartwarming photo print, we witness the incredible bond between Benje, an orphaned chimp, and 18-month-old Jemma Heath. As fate would have it, their paths crossed at BBC-TVs Blue Peter studio, where little Jemma eagerly awaited Benje's arrival. Despite their differences in species and upbringing, these two kindred spirits connected instantly. With a welcoming smile on her face, Jemma extended her tiny hand to the curious chimp who had captured her heart. From that moment on, they became inseparable companions. Benje's collection of toys quickly became shared treasures as they embarked on countless adventures together. Their laughter echoed through the studio walls as they played and explored side by side. Born into tragedy when his mother passed away shortly after his birth at London Zoo, Benje found solace in the loving care of keeper Peter Dillingham. And now he has discovered a new source of love and friendship in young Jemma. This enchanting photograph captures not only the innocence and joy of childhood but also reminds us of the remarkable connections that can form across different species. It serves as a timeless reminder that true friendship knows no boundaries.
