The sash, made of heavy woven cotton material, boasts the symbolic colors of purple, white, and green against a pristine white background with a border edging of dark green. The sash measures 55cm long and 10cm wide on each side, with a hook fastening for easy wearing. The W.S.P.U. sash, adorned with dark green lettering, was first publicly displayed at the Women's Sunday Demonstration on June 21, 1908. This sash is a testament to the unwavering determination and courage of the suffragettes who fought for women's right to vote. The colors of the sash hold significant meaning: purple signifies loyalty and dignity, white represents purity, and green symbolizes hope. The sash, though slightly faded, remains a powerful reminder of the suffragettes' relentless pursuit of women's suffrage. The W.S.P.U. played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement, employing various tactics such as peaceful protests, hunger strikes, and property damage to bring attention to their cause. The sash is an enduring symbol of their unwavering commitment and the progress they made towards achieving women's suffrage in the United Kingdom.
