This drawing is part of a set of twelve coloured drawings on paper, discovered by Lieutenant Henry Eden, Royal Navy, during the British occupation of Woosung Forts in China on June 18, 1842. The drawings, which are believed to be at least twenty years old at the time of discovery, depict various scenes of Chinese life and culture. In this particular drawing, a Chinese guard leads a prisoner on a chain.
