EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph transports us back to the bustling streets of Haworth, Cross Roads And Stanbury in Bradford during the mid-20th century. The image captures a snapshot of everyday life, showcasing Harry Greenwoods Boot & Shoe Repairs shop, which proudly displayed an array of clogs in its window. Established in 1925, this beloved local establishment was renowned for its craftsmanship and dedication to quality footwear. The clogs showcased in the window are a testament to the traditional skills that were once prevalent in this charming corner of Yorkshire. The exact location of this cherished shop is believed to have been on Lees Lane, near the junction of Hebden Road and Haworth Road. Sadly, progress necessitated their demolition as road widening became necessary. However, through Eileen Deste's lens, we are able to preserve a piece of history that would otherwise be lost. Deste's keen eye for detail allows us to appreciate not only the intricate design and artistry behind these clogs but also provides insight into a bygone era when local businesses thrived on personal connections with their customers. As we gaze upon this evocative photograph print from Historic England's collection, we can't help but feel nostalgic for simpler times when cobblers like Harry Greenwood played an essential role within their communities – ensuring comfort and style one pair at a time.
