Solid silver throne, 1397, (1843). Artist: Henry Shaw
Solid silver throne, 1397, (1843). Chair of silver in the city of Barcelona, after a sketch by P Hawke of the triumphal chair of Don Martin of Aragon. When he succeeded to the throne of Aragon in 1395, he was absent in Sicily, occupied in suppressing the rebellion against his son and daughter-in-law, sovereigns of that island. Don Marting is said to have used this throne on his triumphal return to Barcelona in 1397. Illustration from Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages from the Seventh to the Seventeenth Centuries, by Henry Shaw, (London, 1843)
