Thigh nerve plexus, artwork C016 / 6804

Thigh nerve plexus. Artwork of the nerves (yellow), arteries (red), veins (blue), and muscles (brown) of the upper leg (thigh). The nerves are the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, the femoral nerve, the obturator nerve and its anterior and posterior branches, the saphenous nerve, and the vastus lateralis nerve. These are the nerves targeted in a mid-femoral sciatic nerve block. The arteries are the femoral artery and the lateral and medial branches of the circumflex femoral artery. The veins are the femoral vein and the deep vein of the thigh. This is the left thigh. For the right thigh, see C016/6805

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate network of nerves, arteries, veins, and muscles that make up the thigh nerve plexus. With a white background illuminating every detail, this artwork (C016 / 6804) offers a fascinating glimpse into the complexity of our anatomy. Highlighted in yellow are the various nerves targeted in a mid-femoral sciatic nerve block. These include the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, femoral nerve, obturator nerve with its anterior and posterior branches, saphenous nerve, and vastus lateralis nerve. Each plays a crucial role in transmitting signals throughout the upper leg. The red arteries depicted here represent the femoral artery along with its lateral and medial branches from the circumflex femoral artery. They ensure proper blood flow to sustain healthy muscle function. In contrast, blue veins such as the femoral vein and deep vein of the thigh carry deoxygenated blood back to our heart for purification. Their presence is essential for maintaining optimal circulatory health. Lastly, brown-colored muscles like vastus medialis muscle, gracilis muscle, sartorius muscle among others form an impressive bundle within this anatomical masterpiece. Together they contribute to leg movement and stability. Created by D & L GRAPHICS for Science Photo Library's collection of scientific illustrations; this print beautifully captures both artistry and biology at their finest. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity in understanding our own bodies' complexities while providing invaluable insights into neurology and muscular anatomy.
