One virus appears to be emerging from a stricken T4 lymphocyte, a white blood cell of the immmune system. AIDS disables the immune system, rendering the victim liable to fatal infections. The virus (designated HIV - Human Immunodeficiency Virus) enters the T4 cell where its genetic material (in the form of RNA) is translated into DNA, & may subvert the cells DNA into making copies of the virus, which bud from the cell wall & destroy the host cell. This print showcases the terrifying reality of the AIDS virus. In this false-colour transmission electron micrograph, we witness particles of the virus responsible for causing Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). One can observe a poignant scene where an HIV particle appears to be emerging from a stricken T4 lymphocyte, a vital white blood cell within our immune system. AIDS is notorious for its ability to disable and weaken the immune system, leaving its victims vulnerable to fatal infections. The designated Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infiltrates the T4 cell, using its genetic material in RNA form to translate into DNA. Disturbingly, it may even manipulate the host cell's own DNA to produce copies of itself. These replicated viruses then bud from the cell wall and ultimately destroy their host. The magnification used in capturing this image is truly remarkable; at 35mm size, it offers us an astonishing x37,500 view while expanding further to x75,000 when enlarged on a 6x7cm scale.
