Full Moon. The Moon appears full when it is on the opposite side of the Earth

Full Moon. The Moon appears full when it is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun during its orbit, when it presents its full sunlit face to Earth. The lunar hemisphere that faces Earth has bright highlands and dark " seas" (maria), lowland plains full of dark solidified lava. Several large, bright craters are also seen. At lower centre is Tycho, whose rays of ejected material cover much of the hemisphere. At upper left is bright Copernicus with the slightly fainter Kepler just left and below it. Above and left of these craters is the very bright Aristarchus

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Full Moon" takes us on a mesmerizing journey to the lunar surface. The moon, appearing full as it aligns itself opposite to the Sun during its orbit, presents its entire sunlit face to Earth. As we gaze upon this celestial wonder, our eyes are drawn to the contrasting features of bright highlands and dark "seas" which are lowland plains formed by solidified lava. The lunar hemisphere facing Earth reveals a breathtaking sight with several large, luminous craters scattered across its surface. At the center of this cosmic masterpiece lies Tycho, whose rays of ejected material extend far and wide, covering much of the surrounding area. On the upper left side shines brightly Copernicus, accompanied by Kepler slightly below and to its left. However, stealing our attention is Aristarchus - an incredibly radiant presence situated above and left of these magnificent craters. Its brilliance illuminates the night sky in a way that captivates both astronomers and dreamers alike. This monochrome image captured in 2003 offers us a glimpse into our solar system's enchanting neighbor. With its circular shape perfectly framed within this photograph's composition, it reminds us of the moon's timeless allure that has fascinated humanity for centuries. Let yourself be transported into space exploration as you contemplate this stunning piece from Science Photo Library.
