Orion nebula

Orion Nebula. Mosaic of images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope showing the Orion Nebula. The colours approximate to natural tones. This view, about 2.5 light years across, shows most of the visible light parts of the nebula. Just left of centre are four massive, young stars known as the Trapezium. Ultraviolet radiation from these hot stars ionises the gas of the nebula, causing it to glow. Stellar winds add to the pressure of this radiation to blow dust and gas away from the centre, forming large shock waves such as the Great Wall (lower left). This is a mosaic of 45 exposures made during January 1994 to March 1995

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Orion Nebula, showcasing a mosaic of images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The vibrant colors depicted in this image closely resemble natural tones, allowing us to witness the awe-inspiring wonders of our universe. Spanning approximately 2.5 light years across, this view reveals most of the visible light parts of the nebula. Positioned slightly left of center are four colossal and youthful stars known as the Trapezium. These hot stars emit intense ultraviolet radiation that ionizes the surrounding gas within the nebula, causing it to emit a radiant glow. The powerful stellar winds generated by these massive stars further contribute to shaping this celestial masterpiece. By exerting pressure on dust and gas at its core, they create immense shock waves like the Great Wall seen in the lower left corner of this image. Composed from an intricate mosaic consisting of 45 exposures captured between January 1994 and March 1995, this photograph showcases not only remarkable technical precision but also serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity about our cosmic origins. Immerse yourself in this extraordinary visual journey through space and time with Science Photo Library's stunning depiction of one of nature's most captivating creations - an eternal reminder that amidst vastness lies boundless beauty waiting to be explored.
