Hyaenodon. Artists impression of the extinct prehistoric mammal Hyaenodon. This carnivorous predator lived during the late Eocene through to the Oligocene epoch, 41-21 million years ago. Fossil evidence of their skulls reveal that Hyaenodon had an extremely powerful sense of smell. Several species of Hyaenodon existed, the largest of which was Hyaenodon gigas which measured 1.4 metres high at the shoulder and 3 metres in length
