Deneb and emission nebulae

Deneb and emission nebulae. Deneb (Alpha Cygni, lower left) is a blue giant, and one of the most powerful stars known. It is the 19th brightest star in the night sky despite its huge distance from Earth. This is estimated to be between 1600 and 3200 light years, exact measurements being difficult at such distances. If the latter is correct, then Deneb is around 250, 000 brighter than the Sun. It would be brighter than the full Moon if it was at the same distance as Sirius, the brightest star, which is 8.6 light years away. The bright emission nebulae Sh2-112 (lower right) and Sh2-115 (upper right) are also seen. These objects all lie in the constellation Cygnus. Photographed by the 1.22-metre Oschin Telescope at Mount Palomar, California, USA

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the celestial beauty of Deneb and emission nebulae in all their glory. Deneb, a magnificent blue giant star, shines brightly in the lower left corner of the image. Despite its immense distance from Earth, estimated to be between 1600 and 3200 light years away, Deneb still ranks as the 19th brightest star in our night sky. Its luminosity is truly awe-inspiring; if it were located at the same distance as Sirius, the brightest star known to us at just 8.6 light years away, Deneb would outshine even the full Moon. Accompanying this stellar spectacle are two vibrant emission nebulae: Sh2-112 in the lower right and Sh2-115 in the upper right. These nebulas add a captivating touch to an already mesmerizing scene. All these cosmic wonders reside within Cygnus constellation. The photograph was expertly captured by the renowned 1.22-metre Oschin Telescope at Mount Palomar Observatory in California, USA – a testament to human ingenuity and technological advancement in exploring our universe's mysteries. This stunning image serves as a reminder of both our insignificance amidst such vastness and our boundless curiosity about what lies beyond our own planet's boundaries. It encapsulates not only scientific knowledge but also evokes wonderment for those who gaze upon it with appreciation for nature's grandeur.
