Bion 7 experiment
Bion 7 experiment. Scientists preparing two rhesus monkeys for the Bion 7 space-flight mission. Bion 7, or Kosmos-1667, was a biological research mission, carrying two rhesus macaques named Gordyy and Oomka, ten rats and ten newts. The experiments looked at various aspects of long-duration space flight and microgravity. Bion 7 was launched on 10th August 1985 and returned to Earth seven days later. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in scientific history - the preparation of two rhesus monkeys for the groundbreaking Bion 7 space-flight mission. Taken in Moscow, Russia, in 1985, this image showcases the meticulousness involved in conducting experiments related to long-duration space flight and microgravity. The Bion 7 experiment, also known as Kosmos-1667, aimed to explore various aspects of physiological changes that occur during weightlessness. In addition to the two rhesus macaques named Gordyy and Oomka, ten rats and ten newts were also part of this biological research mission. As scientists meticulously prepare these primates for their journey into space, one cannot help but feel a sense of awe at the dedication and commitment required for such pioneering experimentation. The photograph highlights both the historical significance of this event within the context of Soviet Union's contribution to space exploration and its impact on our understanding of biology. Vladimir Rodionov's masterful capture not only freezes a moment in time but also serves as a reminder of humanity's relentless pursuit to unravel the mysteries beyond Earth's atmosphere. This image stands as a testament to our insatiable curiosity about life beyond our planet while honoring those who have dedicated their lives to advancing scientific knowledge through experimentation.
