A view of Mullion Cove seen from Mullion Island with gulls on the rocks in the foreground. Mullion Cove hotel can be seen perched on the cliff above the harbour. Mullion Island is located approximately half a mile offshore and is now owned by the National Trust. The island is part of the local Site of Specific Scientific Interest and is a breeding site for great black-backed gulls, guillemots, shags and cormorants. As bird life is so prominent on the island, public access is now prohibited. Photographer: Herbert Hughes

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the serene beauty of Mullion Cove, located in the picturesque village of Mullion, Cornwall. Taken on June 10th, 1908 by renowned photographer Herbert Hughes, this image showcases a stunning view from Mullion Island. In the foreground, graceful seagulls can be seen perched on rugged rocks as they overlook the glistening waters below. The focal point of this scene is undoubtedly the majestic Mullion Cove hotel, precariously positioned atop towering cliffs that loom over the charming harbor. This iconic hotel has long been a symbol of luxury and tranquility in this idyllic coastal setting. Mullion Island itself is an enchanting natural wonder situated just half a mile offshore. Once accessible to visitors, it now belongs to the National Trust due to its significance as part of a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI). The island serves as a vital breeding ground for various bird species including great black-backed gulls, guillemots, shags, and cormorants. Due to its importance as a sanctuary for these magnificent creatures, public access to Mullion Island is strictly prohibited today. However, through this remarkable photograph captured over a century ago by Herbert Hughes at his artistic best; we are transported back in time to witness nature's harmony at its finest – where land meets sea and birds soar freely above Cornwall's breathtaking coastline
