17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures Verney Lovett Cameron, an English explorer who ventured into the heart of Central Africa during the late 19th century. Born in Radipole near Weymouth, Dorset, Cameron embarked on a remarkable expedition to Africa from 1872 to 1875. However, this particular moment frozen in time showcases a perilous encounter his party faced with a fierce buffalo. Cameron's significance lies not only in his daring exploration but also in being chosen by the prestigious Royal Geographical Society for a crucial mission: to find Dr. David Livingstone. Unfortunately, fate played its hand as he arrived after Livingstone's passing. Undeterred by this setback, Cameron pressed forward and meticulously traced the Congo-Zambesi watershed over vast distances. The engraving featured here originates from Le Journal de la Jeunesse (Paris, c1879), offering us a glimpse into Cameron's extraordinary journey through Central Africa. His determination led him to explore the southern half of Lake Tanganyika—a feat that expanded our understanding of this majestic body of water. Verney Lovett Cameron's legacy as an intrepid British explorer endures through images like these—reminders of his unwavering spirit and thirst for discovery. This photograph serves as both a testament to his courage and an invitation for us to delve into the rich history of African exploration during this era.
