17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, titled "In the pack ice, from the Main-top of the Terra Nova" transports us back in time to December 12th, 1910. Taken by renowned photographer Herbert Ponting during the British Antarctic Expedition 1910-13, this image is now housed at the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. The photo captures a moment of awe-inspiring beauty and danger as two figures, T. Gran and Lees, stand atop the main mast of the Terra Nova ship. Surrounded by vast expanses of frozen pack ice stretching as far as the eye can see, their tiny silhouettes provide a sense of scale against nature's formidable backdrop. Ponting's mastery behind the lens is evident in his ability to convey both tranquility and trepidation simultaneously. The stillness of this icy world is juxtaposed with an underlying tension that hints at potential hazards lurking beneath its surface. As we gaze upon this remarkable snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded of humanity's relentless pursuit for discovery and exploration. The British Antarctic Expedition sought to unravel mysteries hidden within these remote lands while pushing boundaries never before traversed by mankind. Beyond its historical significance lies a deeper message about our relationship with nature – one that compels us to respect its power while marveling at its breathtaking splendor. This photograph serves as a testament to human resilience in extreme environments but also prompts reflection on our responsibility towards preserving Earth's fragile ecosystems. Through Ponting's lens, we are granted access to a world few have experienced firsthand – an ethereal realm where man confronts nature head-on amidst unforgiving conditions. It stands not only as an invaluable record of past expeditions but also as a reminder that there will always be uncharted territories waiting for intrepid souls willing to embark on extraordinary journeys into unknown realms.
