Dust mite. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of a dust mite Dermatophagoides sp
Dust mite. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of a dust mite Dermatophagoides sp. in a sample of household dust. It is crawling among hair, fibres and other dust debris. This mite is a cause of dermatitis (skin inflammation) and is implicated as a cause of asthma. Every house has millions of tiny dust mites, living in carpets and furniture and feeding on the flakes of skin shed by their human landlords. The average double bed contains about two million dust mites of various species. The body of the mite is made up of three regions: gnathosoma (head, at centre left); propo- dosma (with first two pairs of legs); hysterosoma (abdomen). Magnification: x150 at 6x7cm size. x625 at 8x12

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate world of a dust mite, captured through a coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM). In this image, we witness the minuscule creature navigating its way among a sea of hair, fibres, and other debris found in household dust. However, behind its seemingly harmless appearance lies an alarming truth - this tiny mite is not only responsible for dermatitis but also implicated as a cause of asthma. It's astonishing to realize that every home harbors millions of these microscopic creatures. They thrive within carpets and furniture while feasting on the flakes of skin shed by their human landlords. Astonishingly enough, an average double bed can house up to two million dust mites from various species. Examining the body structure of this particular mite reveals three distinct regions: gnathosoma (head), propodosma (with first two pairs of legs), and hysterosoma (abdomen). The photograph has been magnified 150 times at 6x7cm size or an impressive 625 times at 8x12 dimensions. As we delve into the hidden world within our homes, it becomes evident how these tiny arachnids play a significant role in causing allergies such as sneezing and triggering skin inflammation. This thought-provoking image serves as a reminder that even in our everyday surroundings lie extraordinary wonders waiting to be discovered.
