Sem of pollen from daisy

Daisy pollen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of two pollen grains of the common daisy, Bellis perennis. The outer wall (exine) of each grain has spiky projections. These spines catch in the body hairs of pollinating insects. The insects then fly to other flowers and so pollen is transferred. Pollen contains the male reproductive cells of the plant. When the pollen grain, containing male gametes, lands on the stigma of a flower, it germinates. A pollen tube grows down through the stigma, to the ovary. Male nuclei pass down the tube, fertilize the ovules and a seed is formed. Magnification: x1, 400 at 6x7cm size. Magnification: x3, 000 at 5x6 inch size

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

This print showcases the intricate beauty of daisy pollen under a coloured scanning electron microscope (SEM). Each grain of pollen from the common daisy, Bellis perennis, is adorned with spiky projections on its outer wall. These delicate spines serve a crucial purpose in the plant's reproductive cycle by catching onto the body hairs of pollinating insects. As these insects visit other flowers, they inadvertently transfer the pollen grains, facilitating cross-pollination. Pollen plays a vital role in plant reproduction as it contains the male reproductive cells. When a pollen grain lands on the stigma of a flower, it begins to germinate. A remarkable process unfolds as a slender tube emerges from the grain and grows down through the stigma towards the ovary.
