Schoolmaster snapper hunting

Schoolmaster snappers (Lutjanus apodus) hunting for prey amongst coral rubble. Behind the snappers is a trevally (silver), while at lower left is a sharptail eel (Myrichthys breviceps). The schoolmaster snapper inhabits reefs in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. It is found as far north as Massachusetts, USA, but is more common in the Caribbean and around northern South America. It is also found in the eastern Atlantic, off the coast of western Africa. It feeds on smaller fish, crustaceans, molluscs and cephalopods (such as squid), and can reach a length of over 65 centimetres. It is often caught as a food fish as it has fine meat. Photographed off Bonaire Island in the Netherlands Antilles, in the Caribbean Sea

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a mesmerizing underwater scene, showcasing the intense hunting behavior of Schoolmaster snappers (Lutjanus apodus). Amidst the coral rubble, these skilled predators are on the prowl for their next meal. A trevally fish glimmers in silver behind them, adding to the dynamic composition of this image. At lower left, a sharptail eel (Myrichthys breviceps) gracefully coils itself amidst the debris. The Schoolmaster snapper is a resident of tropical Atlantic Ocean reefs and can be found as far north as Massachusetts, USA. However, it is more commonly observed in the Caribbean and around northern South America. These snappers also inhabit waters off western Africa in the eastern Atlantic. Feeding primarily on smaller fish, crustaceans, molluscs, and cephalopods like squid, these remarkable creatures can grow to lengths exceeding 65 centimeters. Not only admired for their hunting prowess but also sought after for their delectable meat quality by fishermen. This stunning photograph was taken off Bonaire Island in the Netherlands Antilles within the vast expanse of the Caribbean Sea. It offers an intriguing glimpse into marine life biology and showcases nature's intricate beauty beneath our oceans' surface.
