Pieces of amber containing fossilized insects

Insects in amber. Fossilized insects embedded in pieces of amber. Amber is fossilized resin that was produced by various now extinct coniferous trees during the Jurassic period. The sticky resin trapped small insects as it solidified and hardened, preserving their bodies for millions of years. This is one of the few processes by which fossils are preserved complete with all of their soft tissues. Various types of insect are preserved, including bees, wasps and ants (Order: Hymenoptera), and flies and mosquitoes (Order: Diptera). Many of these species are now extinct

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a collection of ancient treasures preserved in time - pieces of amber containing fossilized insects. Amber, which is fossilized resin produced by now extinct coniferous trees during the Jurassic period, has trapped and immortalized small insects within its hardened embrace. These delicate creatures have been perfectly preserved for millions of years, their bodies intact with all their soft tissues. The range of insect species captured in this remarkable display is astounding. Bees, wasps, ants from the Order Hymenoptera can be observed alongside flies and mosquitoes from the Order Diptera. Many of these species are now long gone from our modern world, making these fossils even more precious. Intriguingly, this natural process offers one of the rare opportunities to witness complete preservation of fossils along with their soft tissues. The sticky nature of the resin acted as a trap for unsuspecting insects, freezing them in time and allowing us to study them today. As we gaze upon this image, we are transported back through eons to an era when these tiny creatures roamed our planet. It serves as a reminder that life on Earth is ever-changing and fragile but also resilient enough to leave behind enduring traces like these exquisite specimens encased in amber.
