Night launch of Apollo 17

Launch of Apollo 17. The Saturn V rocket carrying Apollo 17 blasts into the night sky at Cape Canaveral on 7 December 1972. This was the only night launch of the Apollo Lunar programme. Apollo 17 carried astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt to the Moon, Ronald Evans remaining in the command module in lunar orbit. Cernan and Schmitt landed in the Taurus-Littrow region on 11 December and left on 13 December. Cernan was the last man to stand on the Moons surface. Apollo 17 returned to Earth on 19 December 1972 - the end of manned Lunar exploration for the time being

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring night launch of Apollo 17, a historic moment in the Apollo Lunar program. On December 7,1972, at Cape Canaveral, the mighty Saturn V rocket ignited and soared into the darkened sky. This remarkable event marked the only night launch of this groundbreaking lunar exploration initiative. Apollo 17 carried three courageous astronauts on their extraordinary journey to our celestial neighbor. Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt were destined for the Moon's surface while Ronald Evans remained in orbit aboard the command module. Four days later, Cernan and Schmitt landed in the Taurus-Littrow region on December 11th, embarking on a series of scientific experiments and lunar explorations. The significance of this mission cannot be overstated as it concluded mankind's initial manned expeditions to our closest cosmic companion. On December 13th, Cernan became not only one of twelve privileged individuals but also the last man to ever set foot on Earth's satellite. After an immensely successful voyage filled with invaluable discoveries and accomplishments, Apollo 17 safely returned home on December 19th, marking an end to manned lunar exploration - at least for that era. This stunning image from Science Photo Library encapsulates both humanity's insatiable curiosity about space and its relentless pursuit of knowledge through ambitious endeavors like Apollo 17.
