Mascagni artwork of human heart with its nerves

Human heart. Computer-enhanced historical artwork of the healthy human heart, with its blood vessels and nerves. At lower centre is the heart with its surface coronary blood vessels; an atrium (yellow) is at centre left. Veins and arteries appear as cylindrical structures; the large vena cava veins are at upper and lower left. Branching blood vessels on either side of the heart supply the lungs. Autonomic nerves are seen in networks above the heart and these control involuntary functions of the heart and lungs. Special conduction mechanisms in the heart muscle maintain its rhythmic pumping action. Drawing by the celebrated Italian anatomist Paolo Mascagni (1755-1815)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of the human heart and its complex network of nerves. Created by the renowned Italian anatomist Paolo Mascagni, this computer-enhanced historical artwork offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the inner workings of our most vital organ. At the center of the image, we are drawn to the heart itself, with its surface coronary blood vessels elegantly displayed. A vibrant atrium catches our attention at center-left, radiating a warm yellow glow. Surrounding it all are veins and arteries, appearing as cylindrical structures that symbolize life-giving pathways coursing through our bodies. But it is not just blood vessels that captivate us in this print; it is also the delicate web of autonomic nerves gracefully floating above the heart. These intricate networks hold immense power over involuntary functions within both our hearts and lungs. They remind us of how intricately connected every part of our body truly is. As we admire this masterpiece, we cannot help but marvel at nature's design – from special conduction mechanisms ensuring rhythmic pumping action to branching blood vessels supplying oxygen to our lungs. This artwork serves as a reminder that beneath our skin lies an awe-inspiring symphony orchestrated by countless biological wonders. Science Photo Library has once again captured both artistry and science in perfect harmony with this remarkable illustration by Paolo Mascagni – an exquisite tribute to human anatomy and its profound complexity.
