Macrophoto of fingerprint of a man

Fingerprint. Macrophotograph of the index finger of a young male human showing details of skin ridges in the outer cornified (keratinised) epidermis. These minute ridges form distinctive patterns, each pattern (fingerprint) is unique to an individual. The tiny depressions on the surface of the skin are sweat glands (exocrine gland). The glands lie as coiled tubular structures in the dermis of the skin, straightening out into a long duct which rises through the epidermis to the skin surface. The secretion of sweat, mostly sodium chloride, is carried to the surface through this duct. Sweating is a method for controlling body temperature

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This macrophoto captures the intricate details of a man's fingerprint, revealing the unique patterns formed by the skin ridges on his index finger. Each individual possesses their own distinct fingerprint, making it an invaluable tool in forensic science and identification. The outer layer of the skin, known as the cornified or keratinised epidermis, showcases these minute ridges that create one-of-a-kind patterns. Additionally, this image highlights tiny depressions on the surface of the skin which are sweat glands - exocrine glands responsible for regulating body temperature through perspiration. Sweat glands play a crucial role in maintaining our internal equilibrium. Coiled tubular structures located within the dermis straighten out into long ducts that rise to reach the surface of our skin. Through this process, sweat secretions primarily composed of sodium chloride are carried to our skin's surface. Science Photo Library has expertly captured not only an extraordinary visual representation but also a scientific marvel with profound implications for forensic investigations and human anatomy studies. This photograph serves as a reminder of both our biological uniqueness and how even seemingly small features can hold immense significance in understanding ourselves and others at a microscopic level.
