LM of copepods, marine crustaceans in plankton

Copepods. Light micrograph of a group of copepods, subclass Copepoda, marine crustaceans. Copepods are tiny, shrimp-like planktonic animals that live in vast numbers in the surface of seas and lakes, where they feed on microscopic plants. They swim with hopping movements, beating their legs to climb up through the water before sinking slowly back down with feathery antennae extended like parachutes. They play a crucial role in the marine food chain: they are the primary converters of plant protein to animal protein and are the main source of food for fish such as herring and mackerel. Copepod Copepods Crustacean Plankton Light Micrograph

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of copepods, marine crustaceans that inhabit the planktonic world. The light micrograph captures a group of these tiny shrimp-like creatures, belonging to the subclass Copepoda. Found in vast numbers on the surface of seas and lakes, copepods are vital organisms that play a crucial role in the marine food chain. With their hopping movements and leg beats, copepods gracefully navigate through water, climbing up before slowly descending with feathery antennae extended like parachutes. This mesmerizing behavior allows them to feed on microscopic plants while providing sustenance for various fish species such as herring and mackerel. Magnified at x20 with a 35mm size lens, this photograph reveals intricate details of these fascinating creatures. Their delicate bodies and unique features come to life under scrutiny, showcasing nature's remarkable diversity. As an essential component of marine ecosystems, copepods act as primary converters of plant protein into animal protein. They serve as a vital source of nutrition for numerous aquatic organisms and contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance. This stunning image from Science Photo Library invites us into the enchanting realm of marine plankton and reminds us of the critical role played by these often-overlooked invertebrates in sustaining life beneath our oceans' surfaces.
