Premium Framed Print : Lithium reacting with water
Framed Photos from Science Photo Library
Lithium reacting with water
Lithium reacting with water. Lithium (Li) is a highly reactive metallic element that floats on water and reacts with it. This exothermic (heat- producing) reaction forms lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). Lithium is stored under oil to prevent it reacting in this way with water in the atmosphere. The reaction equation is: 2Li + 2H2O ----> 2LiOH + H2

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing reaction of lithium with water. Lithium, a highly reactive metallic element from Group 1 of the periodic table, is seen floating effortlessly on the surface of water in a metal bowl. As soon as it comes into contact with water, an intense exothermic reaction takes place, generating heat and producing fascinating results. In this visually stunning experiment, we witness the formation of lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The equation for this chemical transformation is beautifully illustrated: 2Li + 2H2O ----> 2LiOH + H2. The vibrant colors and dynamic movement within the image perfectly capture the energy released during this process. To prevent spontaneous reactions like these from occurring in our atmosphere, lithium is carefully stored under oil. This ensures that its reactivity remains controlled until intentionally used in scientific experiments or industrial applications. The photograph serves as a reminder of how chemistry can be both awe-inspiring and potentially dangerous. It showcases the power hidden within elements such as lithium while highlighting their significance in various fields of study. This remarkable image was captured by Science Photo Library – a testament to their commitment to providing exceptional visual representations that ignite curiosity and deepen our understanding of science's wonders.
