Leptictidium
Leptictidium. Artists impression of the extinct mammal Leptictidium. Fossil evidence of their skeleton revealed that Leptictids had small front legs and large back legs allowing them to move by hopping or jumping. They measured up to 90cm long from nose to tail. Fossilised stomach contents reveal a diet of insects, smaller mammals and lizards. Leptictids existed during the time of the dinosaurs but eventually became extinct at the beginning of the Oligocene epoch, 40 million years ago

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from Science Photo Library showcases an artist's impression of the remarkable extinct mammal, Leptictidium. The fossil evidence of their skeleton has unveiled fascinating details about this creature's unique physical attributes and behavior. With its small front legs and large back legs, Leptictids possessed the extraordinary ability to move by hopping or jumping, much like modern-day kangaroos. Measuring up to an impressive 90cm in length from nose to tail, these agile mammals roamed the Earth during the era of dinosaurs but eventually met their demise at the dawn of the Oligocene epoch around 40 million years ago. Fossilized stomach contents have provided valuable insights into their dietary preferences, revealing a menu consisting of insects, smaller mammals, and lizards. The intricate illustration captures the essence of this ancient species with meticulous attention to detail. It serves as a testament to both scientific knowledge and artistic interpretation within paleontology. This image transports us back in time, offering a glimpse into prehistoric life and shedding light on evolutionary biology. Leptictidium represents a significant piece in our understanding of early mammalian evolution. Its delicate yet robust nature has left an indelible mark on vertebrate paleontology. As we marvel at this mesmerizing artwork depicting one such leptictid gracefully leaping through its habitat, we are reminded once again that our planet's history is filled with awe-inspiring creatures waiting to be discovered through fossils and scientific exploration.
