Jurassic rock strata

Jurassic fossil bearing cliffs. Crumbling rock strata in part of the cliffs between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, Dorset. Known as The Spittles and Black Ven, these cliffs were the site of major fossil finds in the 18th and early 19th centuries, contributing to the founding of palaeontology. Two such major finds were the first find of a pleisosaur in 1824 and the first find of a pterosaur in 1828, both discovered by Mary Anning. The view is looking east towards Charmouth

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring Jurassic rock strata found between Lyme Regis and Charmouth in Dorset, United Kingdom. Known as The Spittles and Black Ven, these cliffs hold immense historical significance as they were the site of major fossil discoveries during the 18th and early 19th centuries, which played a pivotal role in establishing the field of palaeontology. The image captures the crumbling nature of these rock formations, revealing layers upon layers of sedimentary rocks that have been beautifully stratified over millions of years. These cliffs are a testament to Earth's ancient history, showcasing the intricate process of geological bedding. Notably, this location witnessed two groundbreaking finds by Mary Anning - one being the first discovery of a pleisosaur in 1824 and another being the first find of a pterosaur in 1828. Mary Anning's contributions to paleontological research cannot be overstated, as her remarkable discoveries paved new paths for scientific understanding. As we gaze eastward towards Charmouth from this vantage point, we are reminded of how our planet has evolved over time. The coastal beauty intertwined with geological wonders creates an enchanting landscape that continues to captivate scientists and enthusiasts alike. This photograph serves as a window into Earth's past while honoring those who dedicated their lives to unraveling its mysteries.
