Honey fungus mushrooms

Honey fungus mushrooms or bootlace mushrooms (Armillaria mellea). This fungus is found on or around the trunks of coniferous and deciduous trees. It is a tree parasite and the damage it causes is fatal. The fungus spreads by long black bootlace-like strands called rhizomorphs (not seen) which can grow beneath bark, along roots and through the soil. Honey fungus mushrooms grow from summer to early winter and are edible once cooked

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of Honey fungus mushrooms, also known as bootlace mushrooms (Armillaria mellea). These unique fungi can be found thriving on or around the trunks of both coniferous and deciduous trees. However, their presence is not a welcome sight for these majestic giants, as this fungus acts as a tree parasite with fatal consequences. The true extent of its destructive power lies hidden beneath the surface. Long black bootlace-like strands called rhizomorphs spread stealthily beneath bark, along roots, and through the soil to infect new hosts. It's a silent invasion that ultimately leads to irreversible damage. Yet amidst this tale of destruction, there is an unexpected twist - these honey fungus mushrooms are edible once cooked. Their growth cycle spans from summer to early winter when they emerge from the ground in multiple clusters. With proper preparation, they become a delectable treat for those adventurous enough to indulge in nature's bounty. This remarkable image captures not only the reproductive stage of these fungi but also highlights their intricate structure and vibrant colors. The fruiting bodies stand tall against a natural backdrop, inviting us into the fascinating world of mycology and reminding us that even within nature's most destructive forces lie elements worth appreciating.
