Dandelion seed-head, Taraxacum
Dandelion seed-head. Silhouette of a dandelion seed-head (Taraxacum sp. ). The seed-head, or clock, is covered in seeds. Each individual seed is attached to a parachute of fine hairs, known as a pappus, which is lifted from the seed head and carried away by the wind. This type of seed dispersal is typical of the Compositae, the family of plants to which the dandelion belongs

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of a dandelion seed-head, belonging to the Taraxacum species. The silhouette of this delicate structure is truly mesmerizing, as it stands against a backdrop of nature's canvas. Covered in an abundance of seeds, each one attached to a parachute-like pappus made up of fine hairs, this seed-head is ready for its journey through wind dispersal. The Compositae family, which includes the dandelion, exhibits this fascinating method of seed dispersal. As the wind carries away these lightweight seeds attached to their fluffy parachutes, they embark on an adventure far from their origin. This reproductive strategy ensures that new generations of dandelions can colonize different areas and thrive in diverse environments. In this photograph by Science Photo Library, we are reminded of the remarkable complexity found within even the smallest parts of plants. It serves as a testament to nature's ingenuity and adaptability. Whether you appreciate it for its botanical significance or simply find solace in its ethereal beauty, this image invites us to marvel at the wonders that exist all around us – even in something as seemingly ordinary as a dandelion clock.
