Computer illustration of a humpback whale

Humpback whale. Computer illustration of a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae). It is also known as the singing whale due its elaborate vocalisations. They can weigh up to 26 tonnes and measure up to 15 metres in length. The humpback whales teeth are large plates that hang down from the whales jaws. Humpback whales have up to 360 of these plates which are frayed into bristles. The whale will swallow tons of sea water and then press its tongue against the bristles. This will push out the water and trap the whales prey (plankton) in the bristles of the plates. Humpback whales are found worldwide

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This computer illustration showcases the majestic beauty of a humpback whale, also known as Megaptera novaeangliae. With its intricate details and lifelike portrayal, this artwork brings to life the enchanting presence of these magnificent creatures. Humpback whales are renowned for their melodious vocalizations, earning them the nickname "singing whale". Weighing up to an astonishing 26 tonnes and measuring up to 15 meters in length, they truly embody nature's grandeur. One distinctive feature displayed in this print is the humpback whale's unique teeth structure. Rather than traditional teeth, they possess large plates that hang down from their jaws. These plates consist of frayed bristles which play a crucial role in capturing prey such as plankton. To hunt effectively, humpback whales gulp tons of seawater into their mouths before pressing their tongues against the bristled plates. This action expels water while trapping tiny organisms within the bristles—a remarkable adaptation honed over millions of years. Found worldwide across various oceans, these baleen whales captivate both scientists and nature enthusiasts alike with their immense size and gentle demeanor. As one of Earth's largest living animals, humpback whales continue to inspire awe and reverence for our planet's incredible biodiversity. This stunning artwork by Science Photo Library serves as a testament to both scientific exploration and artistic expression—an exquisite fusion that celebrates the wonders of our natural world without commercial intent or affiliation with any specific company.
