Trenance Gardens, Newquay, Cornwall. Around 1925

The viaduct can be clearly seen. Cornishman and amateur photographer, Major Arthur William Gill, was well known in Cornwall and elsewhere during the 1920s and 1930s for his presentations of stills and cine film to many groups including The Royal Institution of Cornwall, Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society and the London Cornish Society. The quarter plate slides which he took prolifically with his ordinary camera are, in some cases, painted by his own hand to great effect. In this case, the film is colour

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the serene beauty of Trenance Gardens in Newquay, Cornwall, around 1925. The viaduct gracefully stands as a prominent feature in this picturesque landscape. Major Arthur William Gill, a Cornishman and passionate amateur photographer, was widely recognized during the 1920s and 1930s for his remarkable presentations of stills and cine film to various esteemed groups such as The Royal Institution of Cornwall, Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society, and the London Cornish Society. Major Gill's talent shines through in this quarter plate slide captured with his ordinary camera. Not only did he prolifically capture these stunning images but also added his own artistic touch by hand-painting some slides to create breathtaking effects. In this particular case, the film is even more extraordinary as it presents vibrant colors that bring life to the scene. It is important to note that this print is not associated with any commercial use or company named "Cornish". Instead, it represents an invaluable piece from the collection at Royal Cornwall Museum. Through Major Gill's lens and skilled craftsmanship, we are transported back in time to experience the tranquility and natural splendor of Trenance Gardens in its heyday.
