Lincoln: Angel Choir, LNER poster, 1923-1947
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail services to Lincoln, showing an interior view of Lincoln Cathedrals Angel Choir. Built in 1256-80 and named Angel Choir after the 28 angels carved on the walls, the choir includes traceried windows in the Decorated style and the famous Lincoln Imp - a carving which is now the citys emblem. This poster shows the choir partially covered with scaffolding during restoration. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1875-1963), who designed ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyds and murals for Reeds Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for the Empire Marketing Board and London Transport

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back in time to the early 20th century, when rail travel was at its peak and the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) sought to promote their services to the historic city of Lincoln. The poster showcases an exquisite interior view of Lincoln Cathedral's Angel Choir, a true architectural gem that dates back to the 13th century. The Angel Choir gets its name from the stunningly carved angels adorning its walls - a total of 28 heavenly figures that add an ethereal touch to this sacred space. The choir also boasts intricately designed traceried windows in the Decorated style, adding further beauty and grandeur to this medieval masterpiece. However, what makes this particular image even more intriguing is that it captures a moment during restoration work on the choir. Scaffolding partially covers this magnificent structure as skilled craftsmen diligently work towards preserving its splendor for generations to come. The artwork featured in this poster is courtesy of Fred Taylor, a renowned artist known for his ceiling paintings at Lloyds Underwriting Room and murals at Reeds Lacquer Room. His talent extends beyond these commissions as he has exhibited his works at prestigious venues like the Royal Academy and other London galleries. Notably, Taylor has also contributed his artistic skills to organizations such as the Empire Marketing Board and London Transport. This remarkable photograph print serves not only as a testament to LNER's commitment towards promoting rail travel but also highlights Lincoln Cathedral's timeless allure and Fred Taylor's exceptional art
