Moss, the dog. Moss the dog, owned by Mr Cledwyn Morgan of Ystradgynlais

Moss, the dog.
Moss the dog, owned by Mr Cledwyn Morgan of Ystradgynlais, near Swansea, Wales, bears the distinction of being a double hero. Young Gestyn Jones, a ten year old boy, fell into a deep pool while playing on the bank of the River Tawe. Moss sprang from the high rock into the water, caught the boys clothes in his teeth and pulled him safely to the bank. About a year later, Mrs Morgan was attacked by a large sow. Moss rushed at the animal and bit him severely in then out, thus saving her mistress from a probably severe injury. For this, Moss was awarded a special collar with a silver and enamel bar, the only one so far given.

1939 Award Brave Bravery Canine Hero

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable Moss, a dog who became an extraordinary hero in the 1930s. Owned by Mr Cledwyn Morgan of Ystradgynlais, near Swansea, Wales, Moss holds the unique distinction of being a double savior. The image captures his noble face and strong physique. In one instance, young Gestyn Jones found himself in grave danger as he fell into a deep pool while playing on the bank of the River Tawe. Without hesitation, Moss leaped from a high rock into the water and clamped onto the boy's clothes with his teeth. With unwavering determination, he pulled Gestyn safely to dry land. But that was not all; fate tested Moss once again when Mrs Morgan faced an unexpected threat from a large sow. In an act of unparalleled bravery, our courageous canine rushed at the animal and bit it severely before swiftly retreating to protect his beloved mistress from harm. For these awe-inspiring acts of valor, Moss received well-deserved recognition. He was awarded a special collar adorned with a silver and enamel bar—an honor bestowed upon him alone thus far. This timeless photograph transports us back to an era where loyalty knew no bounds and heroes came in all shapes and sizes. It serves as a testament to both human-animal bonds and acts of selflessness that transcend time itself.
