Fireplace House Poor Poverty Rubble 1970

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Slum Housing in Birmingham - A Glimpse into the Struggles of 1970s Poverty

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This poignant photo print, captured on the 24th of October 1970, offers a stark reminder of the harsh realities faced by many residents living in slum housing during that era. The image portrays a dilapidated house amidst a backdrop of rubble and decay, serving as a visual testament to the dire conditions endured by those trapped in poverty. The focal point is an old fireplace standing defiantly against all odds, its worn bricks bearing witness to countless stories untold. It symbolizes both warmth and resilience within these humble abodes that were often devoid of basic amenities. This snapshot encapsulates not only physical deprivation but also sheds light on the emotional toll experienced by families struggling to make ends meet. Birmingham's slums were emblematic of wider social issues prevalent throughout Britain at this time. As urbanization surged and industries declined, inadequate housing became an unfortunate reality for many working-class communities. This photograph serves as a historical artifact, reminding us how far we have come in addressing societal inequalities while acknowledging that there is still work to be done. Through Memory Lane Prints' preservation efforts, this powerful image continues to educate future generations about the challenges faced by our predecessors. It stands as a testament to their strength and perseverance while urging us never to forget those who lived through such difficult times.
