MOTHER Teresa of Calcutta paid her first visit to Wales yesterday to open a convent in a terrace house which once belonged to legendary boxer Jimmy Wilde.
Arriving in Swansea in a wheelchair after damaging her ankle in Dublin two days ago, the 86-year-old Albanian born charity worker was met by a delegation from the Roman Catholic diocese of Menevia, which covers West Wales.
The two bedroom house is sited at the bottom of a steep hill tumbling towards Swanseas city centre. Neighbours looked in wonder out of their windows as a police escort arrived and Mother Teresa was helped into the sunshine from a limousine - 17th June 1996

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta Opens Convent in Former Home of Boxing Legend
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the historic moment when Mother Teresa of Calcutta made her first visit to Wales. Despite a recent ankle injury, the 86-year-old Albanian-born charity worker arrived in Swansea in a wheelchair to open a convent in an unexpected location: a humble terrace house that once belonged to legendary boxer Jimmy Wilde. As she descended from a luxurious limousine into the warm sunshine, onlookers peered out from their windows with awe and admiration. The Roman Catholic diocese of Menevia had gathered to welcome this holy figure who dedicated her life to serving others. The two-bedroom house stood at the bottom of a steep hill leading towards Swansea's bustling city center. This unconventional choice for establishing a convent only added intrigue and curiosity among locals. This image captures not only the physical presence of Mother Teresa but also symbolizes her unwavering commitment to spreading love and compassion across borders. Her visit serves as an inspiration for all, reminding us that acts of kindness can transcend boundaries and touch lives wherever they are needed most. Preserved by Memory Lane Prints, this photograph immortalizes an extraordinary moment when spirituality met sportsmanship—a testament to the power of faith and humanity coming together for greater good.
