Alexander McQueen after being named British Designer of The Year at the Lloyds Bank

Alexander McQueen after being named British Designer of The Year at the Lloyds Bank British Fashion Awards 22nd October 1996.
The annual event was held at the Royal Albert Hall.
He is taking over the coveted title from three-times winner John Galliano, who is also vacating his position at Givenchy for McQueen, moving on to take the helm at Christian Dior.
At 27, McQueen is the same age as Galliano when he first won the award in 1987. There are thought to be parallels between the life and work of the two, but McQueen insists: `We re very different designers

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic moment when Alexander McQueen was crowned British Designer of The Year at the prestigious Lloyds Bank British Fashion Awards on October 22nd, 1996. Held in the grandeur of Royal Albert Hall, this annual event celebrated McQueen's remarkable talent and undeniable influence in the fashion industry. At only 27 years old, McQueen took over this coveted title from three-time winner John Galliano, who himself was transitioning to Christian Dior after leaving Givenchy. This passing of the torch marked a significant milestone for both designers, as they were awarded this honor at the same age - Galliano in 1987 and McQueen nearly a decade later. The photograph showcases McQueen holding his well-deserved award with pride and confidence. His unique vision and boundary-pushing designs have captivated audiences worldwide. Known for his rebellious spirit and unapologetic approach to fashion, he has left an indelible mark on the industry that continues to inspire generations of designers. While comparisons may be drawn between Galliano and McQueen due to their parallel paths, it is important to note that each possesses their own distinct style. As quoted by McQueen himself: "We're very different designers". This image serves as a timeless reminder of Alexander McQueen's extraordinary talent and his enduring impact on contemporary fashion.
