A 1957 500cc Velocette motor cycle owned by Charles Bartlett, aged 19 of Arden Street

A 1957 500cc Velocette motor cycle owned by Charles Bartlett, aged 19 of Arden Street, Earlsdon, Coventry. He had partially built it up as a Chopper when a fire destroyed a lot of his hard work. From the remains he built this bike which he has named Speed Freak. The term chopper comes from the American bike fanatics who take a standard production machine and " chop" off all the unwanted bits and pieces(such as panniers, mirrors and heavy duty seats).

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

"A 1957 500cc Velocette motor cycle owned by Charles Bartlett, aged 19 of Arden Street, Earlsdon, Coventry. He had partially built it up as a Chopper when a fire destroyed a lot of his hard work. From the remains he built this bike which he has named Speed Freak". This print captures the resilience and determination of young Charles Bartlett from Coventry in the 1970s. At just 19 years old, Charles embarked on an ambitious project to transform his beloved motorcycle into a unique creation. Initially building it up as a Chopper - inspired by American bike fanatics who stripped down standard production machines - tragedy struck when a devastating fire engulfed his hard work. Undeterred by this setback, Charles refused to let his dreams go up in smoke. From the ashes emerged "Speed Freak" an extraordinary machine that showcased both his craftsmanship and unwavering spirit. With chrome gleaming under the sunlight, this restored beauty stands as a testament to Charles' dedication and resourcefulness. The term "chopper" may have originated across the Atlantic, but Charles embraced its essence with fervor. By removing unnecessary parts like panniers, mirrors, and heavy-duty seats, he created not only a means of transportation but also an expression of individuality. In this snapshot frozen in time on May 5th, 1971; we witness not just a motorcycle but also glimpses into youth culture and hobbies that defined an
