Seal Protest Grows: Public outrage at the heartless methods used in killing baby seals

Seal Protest Grows: Public outrage at the heartless methods used in killing baby seals grew in strength on Monday 17th March when actress Joanna Lumley handed in a petition of 26, 000 signatories at No. 10 Downing Street. Over the next two weeks in Newfoundland, 180, 000 baby seals will be clubbed to death using a pole with a spike sunk into the tip. The worldwide protest at the totally unnecessary cruelty has received a lot of publicity recently, but the Canadian government have not responded with missionary zeal, beyond developing a humane killer, but there are no plans to introduce it to the ice fields where the seals congregate. A Canadian Minister once likened the bloody destruction of the hapless baby seals as being no different to picking oranges. March 1980 P000764

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this powerful photo print, actress Joanna Lumley stands as a symbol of hope and compassion amidst the growing public outrage over the heartless methods used in killing baby seals. On March 17th, Lumley bravely handed in a petition signed by 26,000 individuals at No. 10 Downing Street, demanding an end to this unnecessary cruelty. The image captures the urgency and determination on Lumley's face as she fights for justice on behalf of these innocent creatures. Behind her lies a sea of protesters united against the brutal clubbing of 180,000 baby seals that is set to take place over the next two weeks in Newfoundland. Despite widespread global condemnation, the Canadian government has shown little response beyond developing a humane killer which they have no intention of implementing where the seals congregate. Shockingly, one Canadian Minister even compared this bloody destruction to simply picking oranges. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder that we must continue to raise our voices against such senseless acts of violence towards animals. It highlights not only Lumley's dedication but also the collective strength and determination exhibited by organizations, charities, and individuals who have joined forces in protest. As we look back on this moment from March 1980 captured by Mirrorpix for Memory Lane Prints, let us remember that it is through unity and unwavering advocacy that change can be achieved - change that will protect these precious lives from further harm.
