17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This lantern slide, taken in the late 1890s, depicts a group of Native Carriers in British South Africa, now known as Zimbabwe. The image offers a glimpse into the past of this African nation during the colonial era. Native Carriers were essential laborers in the British colonies, responsible for transporting goods and supplies over long distances. They played a crucial role in the development of infrastructure, particularly in the construction of railways, roads, and telegraph lines. In this photograph, the Native Carriers are seen carrying various items on their heads, including sacks, barrels, and other supplies. They are dressed in simple loincloths and barefoot, reflecting the harsh conditions of the terrain and the climate. The scene is set against a backdrop of lush vegetation and a clear blue sky, hinting at the natural beauty of the region. The Native Carriers were an integral part of the colonial economy, and their labor was essential to the expansion of British influence in Africa. However, their working conditions were often harsh, and they were subjected to exploitation and mistreatment. This image serves as a poignant reminder of their contributions to the history of Zimbabwe and the broader African continent during the late 19th century. This lantern slide is part of the Boswell Collection, held at Mary Evans Prints Online, and is a valuable historical document that sheds light on the social and economic history of Zimbabwe during the colonial period. It offers a unique perspective on a time and place that continues to shape the world we live in today.
