17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: A Glimpse into the Past: Matabeleland Store, British South Africa, circa 1890s 2. Description: This black and white lantern slide presents an intriguing image of the Matabeleland Store in British South Africa, now known as Zimbabwe, during the late 19th century. The exact location of the store is not clear, but it is believed to be situated in the region of Matabeleland, which is divided into three modern-day provinces: Matabeleland North, Bulawayo, and Matabeleland South. These provinces are situated in the west and south-west of Zimbabwe, between the Limpopo and Zambezi rivers. 3. Historical Context: The Matabeleland region holds significant historical importance as it was the site of intense conflict between European settlers and the indigenous population during the late 19th century. The British South Africa Company, under the leadership of Cecil Rhodes, had established a colonial administration in the area, which was later known as Rhodesia. The Matabele people, led by their chief Lobengula, resisted the British encroachment, leading to the First Matabele War (1893-1894) and the Second Matabele War (1896-1897). 4. The Image: The lantern slide depicts a well-stocked store with various goods displayed on wooden shelves. The store appears to be a hub of commercial activity, with people milling around outside, and a horse and cart parked nearby. The image offers a glimpse into the early days of European settlement in Matabeleland, providing valuable insights into the trade and commerce that flourished in the region during the late 19th century. 5. Conclusion: This lantern slide offers a unique perspective into the history of Matabeleland and the early days of European settlement in Zimbabwe. The image serves as a reminder of the rich cultural and historical heritage that exists in the region and the complex interplay of trade, commerce, and conflict that shaped its development.
