Combat Danger Fight Trenches Ww 1

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
A thrilling and harrowing scene of aerial combat over the trenches during the First World War, as captured in this historic photograph from the Mary Evans Picture Library. The year was 1915, and the Great War had reached a new level of conflict with the introduction of airplanes to the battlefield. In this image, two fighter planes engage in a dogfight high above the trenches, their propellers a blur as they maneuver for position. The smoke from the battle below rises up into the sky, adding to the chaos and danger of the scene. The planes, with their distinctive biplanes and fabric wings, represent the early days of aviation technology and the daring pilots who risked their lives in the skies above the Western Front. Aerial combat was a new and uncertain frontier in warfare, with both sides striving to gain the upper hand. The planes were used for reconnaissance, bombing raids, and dogfights like the one depicted here. The danger was palpable, as the planes were vulnerable to enemy fire and the harsh conditions of the battlefield. Pilots had to contend with extreme weather, limited visibility, and the constant threat of being shot down. Despite these challenges, they continued to fly, driven by a sense of duty and a desire to turn the tide of the war. This photograph is a reminder of the bravery and innovation of the men who fought in the skies during the First World War. It captures the raw power and excitement of aerial combat, as well as the stark reality of the war on the ground. A truly historic image that transports us back in time, and a testament to the courage and determination of those who fought in the skies above the trenches.
